Free global wine stats and resources - 2020 edition

Looking for free wine infographics, statistics and reports? Here is a comprehensive collection of links to reliable wine data resources from all around the world.

For anyone studying or researching wine, here is a list of essential resources that I have found useful. They are all completely free, and I have included the most recent updates in each case. This 2020 edition includes several new additions to the previous two editions of this article (see the 2018 and 2017 versions), which are marked with NEW below.

VITI AND VINI REPORTS - INTERNATIONAL

As ever, the OIV is the main publisher for global wine statistics. Their 2019 State Of Vitiviniculture World Market report is available in five languages and can be downloaded here. The California Wine Institute has its own sets of figures on their stats and facts page, including world production and consumption figures.

From 2013, Which Winegrapes Are Grown Where? is still the best free resource detailing the distribution of grapes around the world.

VITI AND VINI REPORTS - NATIONAL

To find out more information about the wine industry in specific countries, here is a list in alphabetical order.

MARKET DATA

This section provides statistics and information on the economic and legislative particulars of various different markets around the world.

  • The WSTA facts & figures data includes infographics and statistics that summarise the UK wine market, with the most recent data from 2018.

  • The Global Agricultural Information Network was redesigned in 2019, featuring a new search engine that allows you to find official US government reports on hundreds of markets. There are currently 260 reports under the wine category, including recent reports on the wine markets in Ontario, Quebec and Ghana - although the UK wine market report hasn’t been updated since 2016.

  • Sonal Holland MW has produced the first-ever report profiling Indian wine consumers. The 2017 version is free to download, although the 2018 version needs to be purchased.
